The essences aim to fluidize the paints. Adding an essence to oil paints makes them less thick. In oil paintings you should always use thick paint (pure or diluted in a medium) over the finer paint (diluted in an essence). The essences are ideal for the first layers of paint. Please note that thinner paint will dry faster. In addition, essences can also be used to dilute varnishes and waxes, or as a cleaning product for the various oil painting tools. The oil essence is of mineral origin, it dries quickly and is known for its complete evaporation without leaving residues. It can be mixed in any proportion with oil paints.
